Finger Painting! Really?

finger paintingOK, so if I told you that I love finger painting, I’m sure that the first image that springs into your mind is of me with my fingers covered in coloured paints and running them over a piece of paper! Whilst that may be great fun, it’s not the kind of finger painting I mean!

I mean, of course, digital finger painting! Well, it’s not really finger painting as such. In the art course run by Sebastian Michaels, he talks about creating every day and practising with finger painting. In his terms a finger painting is quick and simple. You open an image, any image, and just start creating; adding textures and overlays, adjusting the lighting and shadows, adjusting the colours. They should only take you about 15 minutes, just to get you started.

Finger painting gets your creative juices flowing, and keeps how to do things fresh in your mind, while learning how to do new things. Putting you in that creative mind leads you into more complex creations.

Of course, many times it starts out as a quick finger painting will hold you entranced and you simply can’t stop. All the time taking your art further.

It’s wonderful! Whilst I probably won’t be doing finger painting every day, you will get to see what I do manage to do!

All Change!

I first registered the domain name, artbyjillterry.com, on 23rd December 2016 with the intention of using it simply to display my artwork, and that purpose hasn’t changed. But those that know me know that I am never satisfied and that I always want to push it further; it doesn’t matter what it is, I want more and I want perfection! I know that I will never achieve perfection, but that’s what I always strive for.

It was actually back in 2015 that I thought about taking my digital photographs and artwork further, and at that time joined a couple of online artwork courses run by Sebastian Michaels. The courses are amazing, and Sebastian inspires you like nobody else I have ever known.

But (yes, there’s always a but!) with doing a lot of things for other people, poor health and an imminent move, not just house but country, I just didn’t buckle down and do anything. Now we are well and truly settled in our new home and new country, the time has come for me to buckle down and do something purely for me and me alone!

After simply throwing up a few pieces of my art on this website, I got to thinking, that’s not enough (as I always do!). In the end, it was my cousin asking a question about one piece that made me decide to change the website slightly.

I will be giving each piece of art its own page and writing a bit about it. What I write will be whatever comes to mind when looking at the image. It might be a few simple facts about when, where and how I took the original photo, it may be about the feelings evoked in me, it might be poetical (really? me?!), or it might be whatever fictional thoughts the image provoked! Whatever it is there is a story to tell and I hope you enjoy it and it gets to stir your imagination!
